ABOUT
Dulcie Holland (1913-2000) is one of Australia's most outstanding composers. She is best known for her pedagogical and theory texts which have overshadowed her work as a sophisticated composer. Holland's piano music is where she excels, with her arguably most important work, the Piano Sonata called "undoubtedly a landmark work in the Australian oeuvre" by Larry Sitsky. However, her Piano Sonata - though recorded several times - remains in catalogues and archives that are not easily accessible to the general public. Today, this means on-demand and digital streaming.
That is all about to change. With a recording planned for late February/early March, her Sonata alongside three other fantastic works will be released on streaming services for easy access to the public! This concert is your chance to hear the diverse and unique piano music of Dulcie Holland, ranging from the dark and serious to the sarcastic and humorous. This program contains some pieces that have possibly never been performed before. And best of all, tickets are free!
PROGRAM:
- Autumn Piece (1947)
- Piano Sonata (1952)
- Conversation for Piano (1954)
- A Scattering of Leaves (1986)
DURATION: One hour
